Neighborhoods Songs Ranked

Neighborhoods is the sixth studio album by American rock band Blink-182, released September 27, 2011 through DGC Records and Interscope. Their first album of new material in eight years (the longest gap between albums to date), its recording followed the band’s breakup and later reconciliation. Due to conflicts within the trio, the band entered an “indefinite hiatus” in 2005 and the members explored various side-projects. After two separate tragedies regarding the band and their entourage, the members of Blink-182 decided to reunite in late 2008, with plans for a new album and tour. It is the last studio album to feature founding member Tom DeLonge, who left the band in January 2015. Neighborhoods was released to mixed reviews from critics; some felt it was a natural evolution from the band’s previous releases, while others found it stale and disjointed. The album debuted at number two on the Billboard 200 and “Up All Night” and “After Midnight” were released as singles, with both attracting modest success on Billboard‘s Alternative Songs chart. Despite this, Neighborhoods did not sell as well as earlier releases and the band would depart from Interscope the following fall. Here are all of Neighborhoods songs ranked.

14. Fighting the Gravity

“Thismakesnosensethismakesnosensethismakesnosensethismakesno – kind of sucks you in a bit with that. Sounds dark, and pulls you in. Fighting the Gravity is the slowest song on this album I’d say, and for that reason, and just the way it sounds and ends, I feel like it should be the last song of Neighborhoods, yet it isn’t, unfortunately. I think this song could grow on me.”

13. Even If She Falls

“Solid. This was one of the most underwhelming songs to me initially, but it’s quickly moved its way up – I really love the build-up to the chorus, and… well… the chorus itself.”

12. Heart’s All Gone (Interlude)

“One of the first songs released from the band for Neighborhoods. This one’s sung by Mark, and to me, it has a real Millencolin/Offspring feel to it. I don’t care for it TOO much, but at the same time it gets stuck in my head more often than any other song on the album. This song also features Travis’s quickest drumming – I really enjoy the interlude.”

11. Snake Charmer

“Just a catchy song. Took a few listens to really appreciate… it’s quite far from the best on Neighborhoods, but at the same time it’s far from the worst.”

10. Wishing Well

“Another Tom song. The “la-da-da”s make this song insanely catchy, as if it wasn’t already. You’ll probably find the chorus stuck in your head after a few listens. Not mind-blowing musically, but it’s a good one regardless.”

9. Natives

“Right away we see Tom going nuts on the guitar. I haven’t heard Tom be this creative with guitar since “Cheshire Cat.” This song perfectly balances both Mark and Tom and the chorus is too catchy. This is Blink. If you were nervous about the first song, listen to this one, it reassures you. One of the best Blink songs period.”

8. Mh 4.18.2011

“This is Mark’s song. Obviously from the title, lol. The chorus of this song is too catchy. You’ll probably repeat this song after it’s played before moving on to the next track.”

7. Love Is Dangerous

“Tom got an AVA song fully in here. It’s really hard to tell the difference here. Though, if you know Travis’ drumming style, you’ll know it’s Blink. The synth also makes it seem like a very light-hearted AVA song. I still thoroughly enjoy it though. It’s a nice change of pace, like After Midnight.”

6. Kaleidoscope

“Wow, this song really is just fantastic. Blink really knows how to write catchy hooks and this song is a perfect example. Once again, the perfect play off of Mark and Tom. It’s a pretty dark song if you read into the lyrics but wow, fans of old Blink will be impressed.”

5. Heart’s All Gone

” If anyone was complaining about Blink not being “Blink” before, they can shut the hell up right now. This song is pure Blink. Travis goes absolutely insane on the drums and this song is a throwback to fans of Cheshire Cat and Dude Ranch. IMO, the strongest song on the album. Listen to this one immediately.”

4. This Is Home

“The beginning is different for Blink. Once again Tom tries something different than chords for once and plays some damn good guitar and some “synth” music is added in as well. This song is decent, but it’s a weaker song. The chorus isn’t as catchy and it’s a little harder to get in to.”

3. Up All Night

“The long awaited first single. At first, I wasn’t a big fan, but it quickly grew up on me as I learned the lyrics, and it got stuck in my head. The chorus is sung by Tom, while the verses alternate between him and Mark. Not a bad first single at all.”

2. After Midnight

“Fairly simple drumming much of the song with quick triple-hits on the hi-hat starting at the intro through the song just draw you right in immediately. In comes Tom, and you start the 3:26 long After Midnight. I can tell you now this is probably my favorite from Neighborhoods – love it. Oh, and in case you’re wondering, both Tom and Mark sing in this one.”

1. Ghost On the Dance Floor

“A nice way to start the album – starts with a really nice riff, and a bit of synth (which you’ll find many of these songs have) In comes Tom’s voice, and it has a veryvery heavy Angels & Airwaves feel, so if you aren’t a fan of AvA, I’m not sure you’ll be crazy about this song. Fairly simple, but it sounds great.”
