The Troggs Albums Ranked
The Troggs (originally called The Troglodytes) is an English garage rock band formed in Andover, Hampshire in May 1964. They had a number of hits in the United Kingdom and the United States. Their most famous songs include the US chart-topper “Wild Thing”, “With a Girl Like You” and “Love Is All Around”, all of which sold over 1 million copies and were awarded gold discs. “Wild Thing” is ranked #257 on the Rolling Stone magazine’s list of The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time and was an influence on garage rock and punk rock. The Troggs are widely seen as a highly influential band whose sound was an inspiration for garage rock and punk rock. Influential American critic Lester Bangs “called the band the progenitors of punk”, according to NPR. For example, the Troggs influenced artists such as Iggy Pop, and the early version of British pop-punk pioneers Buzzcocks featured “I Can’t Control Myself” in their live repertoire. Here are all of The Troggs albums ranked.

9. Wild Thing (1997)
“The three-chord simplicity of these old tunes seemed a refreshing reshaping of the blues that gave birth to them. It’s been great listening to this and the others I purchased along with it. The only thing remarkable about this group and those like it is that the guys only had one hit in them.”
8. Love Is All Around (1968)
“Great mid-sixties song. If you decide to buy just the one song, listen to all versions and decide for yourself which one you like best. There are some subtle differences among them, and I’m still not sure if this one is the original hit, despite the title of the album it’s from.”
7. The Best Of The Troggs (1967)
“Great stuff here. Many great songs I’d never even heard of. It’s a shame more folks don’t know more about this band. They had a lot more to offer than just “Wild Thing”and “Love Is All Around.” I picked up this one because it’s got quite a list of the good ones from them on it. Good selection. Some that are interesting from outside the timeframe.”

6. Troggs Tapes (1976)
“Great album. It’s a good 10 years after the initial Troggs album (“From Nowhere”) and we have a 5-piece band now. The sound is edgier but still great garage-rock fun. I’m not sure if any of the songs were hits but I seem to remember hearing “Gonna Make You” (with it’s Bo Diddley drum beat)somewhere before. This album has been likened to “punk” but a couple of sweet ballads kill that notion.”
5. Trogglodynamite (1967)
“A must have cd….the troggs do a great version of louie louie that starts off like wild thing, Also this cd has a lot of other fine tracks, lots of songs you won’t find on a greatest hit package but worth hearing over and over again. For new Troggs fans, well, these albums are just typical of the boys at their early and earthy best; 26 great tracks of original songs, cover versions, rockers and ballads; just the job – recommended”
4. Cellophane (1967)
“This much derided album is very enjoyable. While I wouldn’t say it’s a ‘masterpiece’ the Troggs embraced the psychedelic era without losing their true identity; they were still lovable fools who didn’t take the music biz too seriously, and for that reason ‘Cellophane’ is more enjoyable than many other albums of the time.”

3. A Mixed Bag (1968)
“The first song “Surprise, Surprise, is very good. One of those hitting the snare and Tom Tom and banging the piano songs. “Say Darlin” is very Troggs sounding in Lyric and music style. Why wasn’t “Purple Shades” a hit in the U.S.? talk about your lost hit single, great song. The Psychedelic songs? thats where “Maybe The Madman” comes in, and maybe a hint of Psychedelic on a few others. I’m wondering why this album is not getting more recognition! is this a Concept album? in a way yes, this is a very good album, maybe even their best.”
2. Athens Andover (1992)
“”Athens Andover” is a pretty unlikely collaboration between the English pub-rockers (punkers) the Troggs and superstars REM. The result is surprisingly successful. The sound is still very much the Troggs, but with a great touch of REM finesse.”
1. From Nowhere – The Troggs (1966)
“The Troggs’ trademark was their raw r&b sound, often with provoking lyrics ( this was the 1960’s!! ). This album is dominated inspired and catchy R&B tracks. It’s well-deserved that the band got the reputation of being one of the very first punk-rock bands.”
