The Way of All Flesh is the fourth studio album by the French progressive metal/technical death metal band Gojira. The album was released on October 13, 2008 in Europe via Listenable Records and on October 14 in the US through Prosthetic Records. It sold around 4,200 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at number 138 on the Billboard 200 chart. It also reached no. 1 on the Top Heatseekers chart and no. 21 on the Top Independent Albums chart. The album was recorded at the bandâs home studio while Joe Duplantier produced it. The drums were recorded in Los Angeles and engineered by Logan Mader, who also mixed and mastered the album. âYamaâs Messengersâ which is a monstrous, skull-crusher of a song that is anchored by a heavily mammoth, crushing mathematical groove, and also features massive, pounding, brain-smashing riffs that are just pound your skull like a hammer, along with heavy, ear-rumbling bass lines, and hefty, blistering, thunderous double bass drums (with some punishing blast beats included) and thundering cymbal crashes as well.â

âAll the Tearsâ which of course brings the heaviness right back, as it features yet more massively heavy, earth-shaking, cranium-crushing riffage, plus some cool pinch harmonics, along with some ringing and beeping bass lines, and busy, lightning-quick double bass pedal slamming, as well as some floor-shaking blast beat sections, plus more of Joeâs savage and powerful screams and howls throughout to boot.â

âEsoteric Surgeryâ which is another fantastic song that is borderlined on by crunching, chugging rhythms, plus more beastly, slamming machine-gun-like double-timed drumming and menacing death metal tremolo picking guitarsâ

âThe albumâs title track âThe Way of All Fleshâ which is an absolute mind-blowing finale of a track which starts with a walloping drum intro and then segues into a punishing assault of super heavy, chugging, lumbering, pounding riffs and wicked, stomping drums and cymbal crashes, and monstrous vocals throughout that just destroy everything in itâs path, and this song is also further highlighted by an unbelievably mind-blowing melodic finger tapping harmony riff near the end that is guaranteed to hypnotize your mind, and Joe also tends to throw in some clean vocals at the 4 minute mark as soon as the riff commences.â
6. Wolf Down the Earth
âWolf Down the Earth sounds like it came right from FMTS, and the the title track, the Way of All Flesh is a fast-paced chugger which eventually finishes off at the 6-7 minute mark followed by a fairly pointless seague.â
5. A Sight to Behold
âThere are some notables here. While most songs are as good as each other, the controversial track is A Sight to Behold, which is more like something you may find on a Cynic album. It sounds very âFrenchâ to me, and I canât seem to really get my head around the annoying electro-vox. But Iâve read many other opinions from people who say they like it.â

4. Vacuity
âVacuityâ is a steady yet crushing, mammoth stomper that is anchored by deft, steady, stomping, hefty drum beats and thundering cymbal crashes, and massively powerful, super heavy wall-crushing riffs and beastly, heart wrenching growls, as well as some powerful and memorable choruses, and is also highlighted by an awesome brain-cracking blast beat section around the 2:35 mark as well.â
3. Toxic Garbage Island
âToxic Garbage Islandâ is another huge highlight that is bolstered by a ferocious slugfest of pummeling machine gun-like power chords and double bass blasting before settling into a more steady and slower paced progression of amazingly hypnotic riffing and great drumming, and the song is also highlighted by more of Joeâs heavy and intense growls and roars throughout.â
2. Oroborus
âKicking off the album, we have âOroborusâ which is an amazingly mind-boggling opener that is highlighted by some addictingly infectious and hypnotic, technical, finger-tapping harmonic riffing, plus some meticulous and complex drumming, and awesome growls from Joe to boot, plus he also throws in some nice melodic vocals around the 2:41 mark as well.â
1. The Art of Dying
âThe Art of Dyingâ starts things off with a cool and catchy tribal-like percussive intro which builds and builds up until finally blasting off into an explosive melee of vicious guitars, bass, and drums as they all relentlessly fight off against each other in such a savagely frenetic matter and that is until Marioâs drums bring it all together with a slow, yet hefty, pounding and thunderous beat with Joeâs powerful vocals also coming into play as well.â
