Kittie Albums Ranked

Kittie is a Canadian heavy metal band formed in London, Ontario in 1996. All of their material has been released through independent record labels, which to date includes six studio albums, one video album, four extended plays, thirteen singles, and thirteen music videos. “Kittie” was chosen as the band name because the name “seemed contradictory.” Kittie formed in 1996 when Fallon Bowman and Mercedes Lander met in gym class. Morgan Lander became the lead vocalist and one of Kittie’s guitarists and Tanya Candler completed the band’s lineup on bass. After signing to NG Records, Kittie released their debut album Spit, which was certified gold by the RIAA and sold at least 600,000 copies in the United States. The band released Oracle in 2001 and Until the End in 2004. In 2005, Kittie parted ways with Artemis Records and created their own label. The band released Funeral for Yesterday in 2007 and signed to E1 Music in 2009. The band released In the Black in 2009 and I’ve Failed You in 2011. In 2018, a documentary, Kittie: Origins/Evolutions, chronicling the history of the band was released in co-ordination with its 20th anniversary. Here are all of Kittie albums ranked

6. In The Black

” With ‘In The Black’, Morgan’s voice sounds much more natural and has far more variance – essentially consisting of three vocal styles; sweet Canadian vocals, rough attitude, and metalcore screams which she performs all styles at the top of her game. This album is one of the most fun albums I’ve heard in a long time, it’s generally fast and heavy, but mixes slower songs like “Falling Down” and “Sorrow I Know”, with the brutally awesome “My Plague” and “Cut Throat”. It ends with the longest song on the album “The Truth” which has more progressive and metalcore elements to it.”

5. Funeral For Yesterday

“I’ve listened to this album an insane amount of times so I could probably write an essay on it. Some aspects to discuss are the amount of contrasting aspects there are to this album, and how it conforms to some stereotypes but breaks it in others. For Morgan’s vocals, she switches between incredibly sweet singing, emphasising on her Canadian accent, and contrasts this with harsh metalcore screams.”

4. I’ve Failed You

“The album starts off ferocious with “I’ve Failed You”, “We Are The Lamb” and even “Whisper of Death”. The production style is quite similar to Devildriver’s Beast; very dark but very polished. As usual, Kittie make incredibly fun songs no matter what ratio of clean/screamed vocals. Morgan’s sweet, Canadian singing is a stark contrast to the aggressive but clear metalcore shouts, but works fantastically well.”

3. Until The End

“Kittie are a female metalcore band, although their early work like ‘Until The End’ is categorized as Nu Metal. Although there’s some good songs on here, I think their later albums became more fun, more polished, and had a better ratio of melodic to screamed vocals. I do find there’s plenty of tracks on here where the shouting is a bit overboard, whereas Morgan’s singing is very commercial and provides a great contrast against her screams.”

2. Spit

“This album is pretty good. I really like Morgan’s vocals. They’re one of the best female vocals I’v ever heard. She has such a pretty voice. It’s matches well with the lyrics. The guitars and drums are ok. They could be better, but the bass is really good.”

1. Oracle

“Oracle, the second offering from Kittie is a huge step up from their debut Spit. Not only does Morgan seem to sing and scream with much more ease, the songwriting in general is much improved. One would not expect such a powerful melodic album from such a heavy band. Their significant melody underlies the ferocious current that flows throughout this impressive disc. Kittie has in no sense lost their edge and furious metal, the album opener “oracle” pounds at your skull with intensity.”
